Greetings from Huehuetenango!

After an 11 hour day of travel (lots of time spent waiting at a bus stop!),including three different ‘chicken bus’ rides, Team Abandon has finally made it to the city of Huehuetenango. We are in the northwestern part of Guatemala, very close to the Mexican border.

We have been here now for just about a week. We’ve been welcomed into the home and offices of our ministry contact, Pastor Estaurdo and his family. While we are in this city, we’ll be staying in a rooftop apartment which is on site. We’ve been tremendously blessed with two bedrooms (one for the girls and one for the guys), a bathroom with a warm shower, a small kitchen and a common area that has a dining table that seats us all! We are adjusting well to community living and every day we’re falling more in love with each other as a family. We take turns cooking, doing dishes, cleaning and preparing grocery shopping lists and then rationing out our food!!! Our evenings have been spent at our dinner table in prayer, in songs and in lots of laughter!

Our ministry work this week has varied, as we’ve taken on different types of work while we await the arrival of the medical students from Cleveland University. (They arrive today!) So far we’ve had the chance to speak at three different churches, share testimonies, lead worship songs in both English and Spanish, minister to sick and hurting people in their homes , paint and clean. We have met some amazing people in this city who are focused on sharing the love of Christ and bringing Kingdom to this city.
