This week has been a little different than our normal week
here in Peru…
On Sunday they asked us to sing 2 songs for both morning services,
one in English and the other in Spanish. First of all if you know me at all,
you know that my singing is very limited. By that I mean I scream in the car so
people don’t realize how bad my singing actually is and/ or rapping to Lecrae
music. I definitely don’t get up in front of people to sing especially in a
language I can barely speak, but then I remembered it’s not about me. I’m not
singing to perform for people, I’m singing to worship.
Psalm 9:1-2 “I will
give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of you
wonderful deeds. I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to you
name, O Most High.”
After we finished with worship they asked one of us to come
up and share their testimony. That
someone was me. The thing that I love most about sharing my testimony is that
it’s never the same whenever I share it and it’s absolutely perfect each time.
Before I share I always pray that God would speak through me, that the words
would not be my own but His. I pray that He gives me the words for the people
I’m sharing with. I pray that He touches their hearts through this time. That’s
how I know that it’s perfect every time because it’s not my story. It’s God’s
story.

Then yesterday was a holiday here in Peru (Santa Rosa), and
what better way to celebrate by going to the river for a baptism. Yesterday 8
youth/ young adults proclaimed their faith through being baptized.
Matthew 3:15 ‘ But
Jesus answered him, ‘Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill
all righteousness.’ Then he consented.”
When we got to the river, we celebrated by singing worship
songs and then the ones being baptized got into white robes symbolizing the
purity of their new lives in Christ. It was such a beautiful thing to witness
as each person went one by one into the river and coming up out of the river as
a new creation. I can only imagine how much God was rejoicing for His sons and
daughters.

John 1:12 “Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”

(our “cousin” Gustavo)
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, anyone who is in Christ is a new creation; the old has passed, behold, the new has come.”
