Another ministry site that I’m at this month is a deaf
school (might be one of my favorite places so far). When I found out that we
would be going here, I was excited to see what that would look like. My Uncle
Gene, who lives with us back home, is also deaf, but we’ve never used (as far
as I can remember) sign language with him. He’s really good at reading lips and
he can talk normally.
When I first got there, I thought I don’t even know Spanish
so how am I going to sign in Spanish?! I’ve realized that learning sign
language actually makes learning Spanish a lot easier! Plus, sign is the same
in both English and Spanish. Now sometimes when I don’t know the Spanish my first reaction is to just sign it.
I know that I have a lot of favorite parts about ministry
this month but seriously one of my favorite parts about going here is hearing
the children laugh. Knowing that the children can still have so much joy and
laughter makes me extremely happy.. I can’t even begin to put it into words!!
