The Lord is moving. Whether we think so or not he moves and in ways that sometimes we dont get. After such a hard first month of ministry I keep thinking there is no way. No way I could do this for a whole year, no way God would do anything with this broken mess I call myself, and no way he would unite our group that seemed so lost. But he is doing it! Yay to that.
Yesterday team Joy got to really start our ministry. We met with a pastor of a local church, his name is pastor Willie. We discussed ministry options through his church. I know personally I was a little hesitant to work with such a young pastor (again) because last month we had such a hard experience. But he was amazing. We went to their leadership meeting at church and there were people our age. They are also really upbeat and happy there. A boy my age (21) translated for us and it was amazing becuase I could actually communicate with local people. We also worked out a plan what this month is going to look like. We are going to paint and do a lot of work with the local children. We are also going to be doing church services and helping out wherever we can.
Tonight we went to the church service. Pastor Willie was such a great speaker and so funny too. He taught about being fishers of men. About how we are all called to be disciples and that we must be a good example to others. I loved the message because it has been something that has been on my heart for a long time. As christians we are watched, everything we do is watched and people are just waiting for us to screw up. I dont want to be one of those christians who is content at just watching, just going through the motions. I joined the race to do big things, to be changed, to love on people, and to have a passion for the lord.
So I love it here in Puerto Barrios so far. My heart is already breaking for the people here. They are amazing and the have an excitment to change. Please pray that we have impact and God uses us to better his kingdom. This is team JOY’s new begining. We are starting for square one and im excited. Im glad we were stretched last month.
