I never thought I would be back here. And here I am one short year later standing in the city that once broke my heart. Last July I got the chance to go to Phnom Penh, Cambodia with the leadership group I was involved with at my church. We spent 10 amazing days doing short term mission work. We worked with college students, taught English at a school, did ministry at a church, and my personal favorite worked with orphans. I had never had the opportunity to do mission work before so I unhesitatingly said yes at the chance. I read my journal from that trip shortly before coming on the World Race. In the last entry I said, “I really hope the Lord calls me to do mission work someday. I love it here”. That is the funny thing about the Lord. He knows the desires of our hearts and will give us what we want if it’s in his will.  Psalms 36:4 says, “Delight yourselves in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your hearts”.  It is kind of scary that my big dreams have become a reality.

So here I am in Phnom Penh again living out my vision. You better believe I was excited to come back here. It has a
special place in my heart. But ministry looks different now than it did when I was last here. The city is the same crazy and stinky place I once was. But the people are different, so very different. Also the ministry is completely different. As Cambodian’s would say, “same same but different”.

This month my team along with team BOLD, “the marrieds” as we like to call them are partnering up with a local church. The church’s name is New Life Fellowship and it is the biggest church here in Cambodia with roughly 700 members. It also has a lot of sister church’s that it feeds into in other provinces of Cambodia. The pastor of New Life is a man named Jesse McCaul originally from the United States. His family came over as missionaries in 1995. In 2003, he took over New Life from his father. The church is crawling with mission oppurtunities. There are so many chances to get involved here but they decided to put us in the journalism route. Me a journalist, WHAT?

This month we are focusing our attention on the testimonies, the testimonies which go unheard. We get to be involved in all the different ministries by interviewing people. We will have our video and digital cameras at hand to get these stories out. These testimonies will go into newsletters and videos to help raise awareness and keep the supporters involved. So with all that said I am ecstatic to be back here. I feel like I am at home and I’m excited to see what the Lord is going to do this month. I feel honored to get to hear the stories of the people here. Please be praying that the Lord uses us to really raise awareness for New Life Fellowship.
