The days are ticking down until the end of 2008 and we have nearly completed 6 months of the World Race. We have shared many laughs, tears, and memories together. The LORD has done a great work in us. I wanted to share a few highlights of the last 6 months of being on the World Race.
Mexico
1. Not knowing my team but being put in the middle of nowhere and not speaking the same language, talk about hard.
2. Jess and Tara Infamous steam roller incident
3. Jess looking like she’s from Chole land (we still give her a hard time) which is the language of Arroyal Palenque, Mexico.
4. Having everybody stare at us everywhere we went. We didnt stand out at all. wink wink.
5. Maithili teaching our contact about how good hot tea and cookies are.
6. Sharing a tent with Maithili.
7. The crazy bugs which include huge spiders (Terry), crazy mosquitoes, and gross beattles.
8. Having to go to the river to get alone time and having 10 kids follow us and random animals walking by like pigs, cows, roosters, ect.
9. Hand washing our clothes in the river and showering there too.
10. Making corn tortillas
11. Racing with team BOLD to Guatemala.
12. The feista which was one of the worst days of our life and riding home in the truck with the drunk men.
Guatemala
1. Having to walk into McDonalds (team JOY) with all of our gear with EVERYBODY staring at us.
2. Team JOY girls having to share 3 beds and having me and Tara share a bed. The springs dug into our back.
3. Playing soccer almost everyday and going to get liquidatos after
4. Getting to spend time with Jonathan, Sara, and Jada. I loved the day we went to the pool.
5. The YWAM team we ended up spending the month with. They were awesome.
6. Zach straightening my hair
7. Trying to learn spanish and speaking broken spanish to anybody who would listen.
8. Our angel Nehemiah, who we ran into everywhere. He rode his horse while talking on the phone. How cool is that?
9. Zach’s birthday celebration. Hes 30 flirthy and thriving.
10. When the electical box caught on fire and Paul came to put it out with a wooden cross
11. Pollo Cambaro and the AC there
12. DDR at the mall with Tara and visiting Carina
13. Riding on the moto with Melvin
Vietnam
1. The Crazy traffic
2. Our hotel with rats running around
3. Staying up for an hour in the middle of the night praying for Vietnam
4. Matt Snyder joining our squad for a month. What a great guy!
5. Bombs over Vietnam, our night of prayer and worship for Vietnam.
6. Getting to hold the babies at the orphanage and watching Lindsay fall in love with one.
7. Bonding with Pam and Kara in our room 301, and having to walk up three flights of stair everytime we went to our room.
8. Holding hands for three hours with one of the Vietnamese girls because its part of their culture.
9. Loud music blaring when you go into a coffee shop (Zen Cafe). So loud you cant even think.
10. Getting to ride a roller coaster in a third world country. It only lasted like 30 seconds but it was worth it. Also having an elephant blow hay at us. It was scary.
11. Going shopping in the hug market
Cambodia
1. Getting to work with New Life.
2. Going out into the village and hearing testomonies about how God has transformed lives. We got to hear how God has proformed miracles.
3. Having to get up in front of New Life and say things in Khmer (their language) but having no clue what we were saying
4. Having my heart broken again for Cambodia
5. Spending countless hours at corner 33.
6. Getting to see the people I met last time I was in Cambodia again.
7. The night we made cookie dough.
8. The gross huge rats that would scurry around at night and the night I was doing my laundry and a huge one ran right in frount of me. I screemed like a big baby and ran to Shanda.
9. How hot it was at the YWAM base and getting yelled at all the time.
10. Pam putting up a movie showing time on the dry earse board so we would get a chance to actually watch a show.
11. Getting to spend an extra month with Pam, Steph, and Lindsay in Cambodia.
12. Getting stuck in the mud with Dan
Thailand
1, Getting a tattoo with Amy, TATTOO DAY!
2. The Thanksgiving Day feast we had at Mercy Center
3. Getting stuck in Bangkok for over a week and having to pack in 4 hours when we did find out we were leaving
4. Finding out I had worms.Ewww gross
5. Going to the fruit stand everyday in Bangkok
6. Seven Elleven toasties
7. Koh Samet Island. The Banana Boat and Kayaking with Lindsay. Also meeting the Janurary squad and playing soccer on the beach.
8. Flying out of a military base
9. Getting to see prostitution first hand in Pattaya
10. Hard Rock Cafe with Amy in Pattaya. We loved the band that was playing and the foam pool.
11. Getting laundry washed and dried in a dryer….it smelled great
London
1. Getting to live with 12 other girls in my room and waking up right with Tara’s face to my face and Amy’s feet in my face.
2. The cold and buying a whole new wardrobe
3. Having to wear our African skirts over our jeans and making it work. We look mormon
4. Getting to see all the sights and getting to take fun pictures. My favorite was the one with the guard, He did talk to us even though he wasnt suppose to.
5. Getting to take pictures on Abbey Road and seeing where the Beattles recorded their music.
6. Sniff testing all our clothes because hey its not hot so you can wear clothes way longer without smelling bad. Even if they do smell bad you still wear the same jeans 2 weeks in a row.
7. Walking from our church to the pastors house to take showers at 6:30 in the morning because we didnt have showers where we were staying.
8. Playing soccer at the YWAM base with the DTS team.
9. Having people Knitting all the time and seeing new hats, gloves, and scarves daily
10. Rollerblading with Jess in the freezing cold with the rollerblades we found in the blessing house.
11. Getting to spend Christmas in a place that feel close to home
I hope you enjoyed some of the memories I have had so far on the World Race. I know there will be many more to come and also there are many I have left out. The LORD has transformed my life so far and really showed me who I am in him. Amen to that. But I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
