It’s a place where nobody thinks about going and would even dreams of stepping foot in. Somewhere you can smell from a mile away and see the vultures fly high uptop. This place I speak about is the local dump here in Puerto Barrios. Myself along with the rest of team J.O.Y. got the priviallge (and yes I said priviliage) of getting to do ministry there this past week.

One of our ministry partners named Jonathan and his wife Sara (who are from Flordia) suggested that if we had a free day we spent it in the local dump serving the people who lived around there. The thought of doing something like that isn’t too appealing to most but we did it anyways. Zach the night before stayed up late making beans and a salsa to put in tortillas to hand out to the people. Sara and Jonathan came with 200 tortillas and we with a whole heck of a lot of beans. We were ready.

When you drive into the dump you are greated with people who run up to your car to dig in your trash. They try and find valuable things that they can resalvage and resale to people. There is trash all around  and random trash piles burn everywhere. Soon after we arrived we made an assembly line to make fresh tortillas for all of the people. Jess was the bean girl so she spread all the beans on the tortillas, Zach put the salsa on the tortillas, and Tara put the cheese on. It was mine and Maithili’s job to hand the tortiallas to each person and they lined up single file. They were patient  and very grateful to recieve the tortillas. We really wanted to minister to the people of the dump but most got their tortillas and were out of sight. I figured hey why not pray for everyone so anytime I handed a tortilla to somebody I would say a little pray for them. Those people need Jesus, they need to find hope in something. I am blessed everyday to wake up and know the Lord and to find everything in him. Please pray for the people who we meet day to day that we might impact them and bring light to their darkness.
