Not going to lie. When I found out we were going to Malaysia, I had to check a map to see where it was.
See. It’s south of Thailand (which, after a debrief by Bangkok, made for a nice 24 hour busride to Kuala Lumpur). And it’s in two parts…but most of the important cities and such are on west Malaysia.
Now you know where Malaysia is.
Culture
Another thing you probably didn’t know (because I didn’t know either) is that Malaysia is pretty much 3 separate cultures. Indian culture is huge here. I feel Iike I’ve been in India for the last week. Indian people. Indian dress. Indian food…oh the Indian food. Month 11 is gonna be no problem for this girl.
Chinese culture is defnitely also a large part of Malay society. And then Malay culture. Though I’m almost positive I have not yet met a Malay Malay…just Indian Malays, and a few Chinese Malays. The major religion here is Islam. It is illegal to prosceletyze (spelled wrong. I’m aware) a Malay. Hooray evangelism!
Now you know what Malay culture is like.
Ministry
When we arrived in Kuala Lumpur, and found out we would be taking the metro train to Port Klang, we were told we would be working with a prayerful man (though with the accent it sounded like he said “prideful man”. He said it over and over, we were like, “oh my goodness I don’t want to work with this guy if he’s so prideful!” Lost in translation) It’s true. Pastor Anthony is a prayerful man. Every morning we spend an hour in devotion and prayer. We’ve done prayer walks over the city, the new church land, we’ve prayed with families, prayer walked on Crab Island that a church would be established there. Prayer Prayer Prayer. Good thing it’s so powerful 🙂 Other miscellaneous ministries have included:

A visit to an Elderly Women’s home.

Home visits for “Food Fellowship”

Children’s Home for games, songs, and lessons!

and Bowling with the youth group!
It’s only been a week here in Malaysia, but we’ve been able to do a lot, see a lot, eat a lot, and meet a lot of really incredible people! Next week we’re headed somewhere new…maybe.
And now you know!
