Confession. I like living in America.
I like having hot showers…all the time… my shower in my apartment is sometimes persnickity (sp) and will go cold for a few seconds, and before I freak out I say “Jessica, you took freezing cold river baths and bucket showers…this is wonderful.”
I like being able to throw my clothes into a washer and walk away, only to come back and put them in the dryer, where they will be dry in less than an hour, not dependent on sun or wind or lack of rain, and they will smell nice and fresh.
I like knowing exactly what I’m ordering at restaurants. My spectrum of food options has broadened significantly, but I also always know that I can steer clear of the liver and gizzards.
I like having alone time. When my roommates are at work or school I can play guitar as loud as I want, or I can read in silence or I can listen to what I want.
I like being able to decide if I want to go somewhere. The freedom of choice! I went to Arkansas, Memphis and Indiana. I didn’t go to Atlanta. I spent 5 days at my apartment, not driving my car (after it snowed a few inches), and just doing NOTHING…because I could.
But last night I was cleaning my room (another thing I like about America…my bed), and found my World Race journal, postcards (I sent one from every country), and my Prayer Journal, and I was caught up in the memories of my life last year. It’s easy to forget how much I got to see and experience last year. It’s easy to put the people I met and the lives changed in the back of my mind. It’s easy to get caught up in America. It was a wonderful reminder last night of WHY I like America so much, and who I owe all my thanks for that. (God)
Um…not much new on the Divine Cafe(divinecafeproject.blogspot.com) front, still figuring things out… Work at the church is awesome. I’m taking a group of High Schoolers to Honduras in June! Looking for a second job and spending the holidays with family! I also just signed up to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity in Omaha. Gonna build some houses up in here! 🙂
And I’m on Twitter! 🙂 @JessicaKeown
That’s all.
