You’re the God of this city

You’re the King of these people

You’re the Lord of this nation

You are.

You’re the light in this darkness

You’re the hope to the hopeless

You’re the peace to the restless

You are

There is no one like our God

There is no one like our God

For greater things have yet to come, and greater things are still to be done in this city

Greater things have yet to come, and greater things are still to be done here.

Made known by Chris Tomlin, this song was written by Aaron Boyd, lead singer of Belfast band Bluetree while  in a bar in Pattaya, Thailand. Sometimes a song really captures your heart. But when you experience what the author of the song was inspired by, the song takes on a whole new meaning. Some things stand out new to me.

King. Thailand is one of the only countries with a king. And they respect the king, whether they like him or not. Our only response when anyone mentions the king is “The king is a great man.” The verse that God is the King of this nation resounds with so much more truth when you realize how important of a position that is. LightThe place we are ministering to is dark.* Even walking the streets during the day you can just feel the darkness lurking down the ally’s. Saying that God is light in a place that exudes darkness is praying that God would just expose it for the evil it is. That the men and women that frequent the bars would see the light and not be able to turn from it. Hope.  I look into the eyes of the women we talk to and I do not see hope. I see a desperate desire for something more, but with no hope of escaping the lives they are living.  But God is moving.

More stories to come…
