Do you remember the song we would sing when we were younger, “We’re going on a treasure hunt”? the first part goes like this:

Goin on a treasure hunt (repeat)
I'm not afraid (repeat)
What do I see? (repeat)
Oh look! It's some tall grass! (repeat)
Can't go over it (repeat)
Can't go under it (repeat)
Can't go around it (repeat)
Got to go through it (repeat… Make motions with arms like you are clearing a way thru grass)

Well I was reading my devotional today and that song popped into my head! And I thought wow! We are going on a treasure hunt! Following Jesus is not always an easy road but it is fulfilling and pleasing. We will run into obstacles like tall grass, a wide river or a dark cave. But we can’t go over them, can’t go around them, and can’t go under them, so we have to go through them. I think this song proves a great point when looking at life as a treasure map. We face many hardships many that we cannot ignore or run from; we have to go through them. God wants this for us and he plans these roadblocks in our paths. When we face adversity and depend on him to get us through it, we grow in him. We must face adversity if we want to grow stronger in our faith and our walk with Him. He never will give us anything we cannot handle. My aunt always says, “if God brought you to it, he’ll get you through it.” I love that saying because it is so true. We must keep pushing through.

Ultimately we want to find the treasure right? The treasure we are searching for on this journey coming up for us is Christ. We are all seeking a more intimate relationship with Him. I want to be able to depend on God fully and know He will get me through the challenges in my life in a real way. And how can I challenge myself in that way by staying where I am? I need to be pushed. I need to go through the tall grass, the wide river and the dark cave. And I say that jokingly but who knows what will happen on this trip!

I must be honest, and you’ll hear me say this more often than not. I am very scared. I am very scared to go on this trip. I am scared of bugs, I am scared of the bathrooms I’ll have to use, and I am scared of what God will reveal to me. I am scared of what God will uncover for me in this time. But I am so excited to be scared! Because I know God has my back and that he will get me through anything. I am so excited to know that He has plans in store for me and all my teammates on this trip. I am so excited to find God in a different way and the treasures He has in store for us. I am so excited to come back a changed person and to see where God takes me on this journey!

We’re going on a treasure hunt!!
