When I first truly contemplated going on this trip I was like, “I can’t come up with $15,500!” That was a deal breaker for me. But, God kept putting this trip on my heart so I applied. When I was accepted I was like, “I STILL can’t come up with $15,500!” But all this time I knew that if God wanted me to go on this journey He would provide the money. I kept telling friends and family that, “I know God will provide the money if I am meant go.” All the while I am thinking, “where is all this money going to come from?” And “He’s gonna make me work extra hard for it because He knows I won’t appreciate it if I don’t.” I was terrified of the road ahead.
When I was accepted into the World Race, I diligently began planning fundraiser after fundraiser and even before I had one I was drained by the thought of them already. I kept thinking “God, You’re going to really have to help me raise all this money because I don’t know where it’s going to come from.”
After, my $11 on the 11th fundraiser on Facebook something hit me so hard. Over $2,500 was raised from this fundraiser from over 70 individuals donating. I WAS ASTONISHED!!! I couldn’t believe that ALL these people were giving this money to me! Some of them good friends I haven’t seen in a while, others people my mom worked with, others from church who I’ve only had a few conversations with and others I have never even met before! I couldn’t believe that this much money came in from me and my friends and family only asking people to donate $11. Well, that didn’t seem hard at all.
That’s when God made it clear to me:
“My child. You thought you were going to have to work so hard for this money. You thought you were going to have to work so hard because you’ve always worked hard for everything you have. But you see…this isn’t about you this time. This is about ME. People aren’t giving money to you. They are giving it to Me and My work I have set in front of you.”
What a powerful lesson.
Thank you Lord for allowing me to step back and allow You to do Your work and knowing that I am nothing without You. And thank you to all of you for NOT giving your money to me but to our Good Lord Jesus Christ.
(No worries. I'm still gonna keep working hard with God to raise money, just with a different frame of mind
)
