1. Fretting over our safety
We (World Racers) know that you are our parents and want to protect us from harm. That is why you are constantly checking the news about the countries on our route, making sure we have our medications, and buying us water filters and mosquito nets. We know that you just want the best for us, however, we don’t want you to worry. We may get a stomach bug or sprain our ankle while we are on the field but we know that God has called us to this journey for a specific purpose and will protect us. The reward in furthering God’s kingdom far outweighs the risk of leaving home.
2. Why don’t we have more information?
The World Race has a specific way of keeping you guessing in order to make sure you are staying in the moment. If a team had been in rural, hot, bug-infested Cambodia for a week and was then informed that they would be on the beach in Thailand the next month they wouldn’t enjoy their time in Cambodia. They would spend the month wishing it was over instead of accomplishing the great things that God had for them there. Also, your World Racer does not need to tell you everything they know. They may not tell you because they know you would worry and just want to protect you. Your World Racer is an independent adult and they should be allowed to make their own decisions about how much information they are willing to share. Trust me, they are thinking about what is best for you, as well as themselves.
3. Don’t be worried if we don’t call you
Haven’t heard from your World Racer in two weeks? Don’t worry! There may be a number of reasons why we haven’t called yet. We may be swamped with our ministry and overwhelmed with the amount of miracles God is accomplishing. Kingdom work can be draining and we might just be using our down time to rest in the Lord! We might be working through some internal things and want to rely more on Jesus and our community. Please don’t take it personally. We love you so much and we haven’t forgotten about you.
4. We need support
It means so much for a World Racer to know their parents are walking with them every step of the way. Please take some time and let your Racer know that you are proud of them and while you are a little scared you know that they are working to fulfill God’s work for the kingdom and in their lives. You are the most important people in our lives and we love you. While your approval isn’t necessarily needed, it is wanted by your World Racer. Please partner with us on our journey and show your support!
Thank you Mom, Dad, and all my supporters! I love you!
