Today, I started a book by Seth Barnes called Listening Prayer. I have been feeling a call from God that I needed to start it this month but I have been putting it off. I finally decided that it was time to be obedient.
The book walks you through how to actually have a conversation with God. Not a one-sided prayer but an actual monologue. Did you know that you can ask God questions and then expect an answer? I knew this but had been choosing to not listen long enough to receive an answer.
I started with praying that God would speak to me in a way that was complete and easy for me to understand. Then, I prayed for protection against deception. I started with asking Him, “Are there ways in which I have offended you?” As clear as day, I felt him saying, “You haven’t offended me. You have broken my heart. Stop looking to other people, especially males for affirmation. I am enough. Stop running from me.” I knew in my heart that this was true. I look to people for affirmation because it is easier. I can see them and don’t have to have faith. However, God has always been there saying He is enough. He just wants me to run to Him.
I then concluded with asking Him, “Is there anything you’d like to share with me?” I was expecting words of wisdom or a singular fact. He simply replied with, “I’d like to share everything with you, daughter.” My Lord wants me to have joy, peace, and freedom. He wants to be able to walk with me daily. He wants to show me all that He has created just for my enjoyment. He wants my heart and he wants me to run with everything to Him.
