America, you just don’t get it.
When we arrived in Cambodia, we all were overjoyed to have a little time on the Internet. We pulled out our cellphones and laptops and started surfing. I kept seeing posts about whether or not wearing yoga pants was causing men to sin. There were numerous posts explaining if it was girls’ faults for wearing them or guys’ faults for looking. Christians were in heated debates with one another over yoga pants.
I almost lost it.
I mean, are you freaking kidding me?!
My team had just returned from a prayer walk in the red light district of Phnom Penh. There were prostitutes everywhere. Some who wouldn’t even be old enough to have their driver’s licenses in America. They were being forced into this and their main customers were Western white men.
And the most heated debate in the Christian community is yoga pants?!?! It is all I can do to not throw my phone off the balcony as I’m typing this.
There are children starving of malnutrition, Christians being persecuted, and people being sold into the slave trade every single day.
I get it. It’s easier to go to work, sip coffee, retweet some bible verses, and post comments about whether or not girls should wear yoga pants. You may say that it’s not feasible to think about bigger things because they do not concern you and there’s nothing you can do to help anyway.
That is a lie from you and a lie from the devil himself. How about sponsoring a child, fostering, or considering adoption? Why not become a missionary or support one? Thought about supporting a ministry that is working to abolish human trafficking or the slave trade? Do you know how to pray?
I do not believe that when Jesus was speaking about the kingdom of God that he had a bunch of timid, passive Christians in mind. It’s time we all got some fire in us and started working for the greater plans that God has put us here to accomplish. If you have been doing this already, God bless you. If you haven’t, consider this the trumpet calling you to battle and if this post offended you, I’m not sorry.
