this morning i went back to hermano pedro. first place i went was upstairs to the babies. there is a little boy named melvin who has some problems with his legs. he is around 3 or 4. he is able to stand in a crib. he talks pretty well and he really likes to play. so i sat with him for a while and played cars. most of the time the cars were being thrown at me. he really thought that was funny. he is pretty rough. then i held him for a while. and he gave me lots and lots of kisses. mostly he just laughed. there is also a little girl up there named angelita. she is so beautiful. she was born with her intestines on the outside of her body. elliott our translator loves her too. i held her for a while…..then she peed on me. it was nice. 🙂
next i went downstairs where my alex was. he was being fed by another volunteer so i helped feed another little boy. while i was feeding him a little boy named sam sam was banging his head on his crib. they say that sam sam is autistic. although dick, the main volunteer who helps us out a lot is not so sure. he is an orphane and spends most of the day in his crib alone. after a while he doesnt have anything better to do except for bang his head. being kept in solitude for most of your life would drive anyone crazy. sam sam learned to walk about a week ago. he is about 6 yrs old. when i got done feeding the other child i went to get sam sam. as so as i took down the front of his crib, he stopped banging his head and had a huge smile on his face. i took him out and off he went. we ran around outside for a while and made plans to go to the park. but the office was closed and we ran out of time. so tomorrow we are going to the park. it will be good for him to be able to run around. while i was playing with him i picked him up and he was also very wet. so make that twice today for getting pee on me. i tried to get the nurses to change him, but they have a schedule and he had to wait. dick finally went in and told them they needed to change him so we could go to the park.
once we found out it was to late to go to the park i went to get alex and hold him for a while before we had to leave. we walked around the yard and i sang to him and he laughed. so much fun. he was also very wet. so make that three times today that i got pee on me. i almost feel like i acomplished something today 🙂
we are not allowed to take camaras into the hospital to take pictures. so i will not have pictures of any of these guys unless we go out. so just imagine the most beautiful children in the world and it will be like you can see them.
