Team Pneuma was sent to El Tizate to serve alongside a man of peace who has many talents & blessings he uses in service to the Lord. We are staying up the road from him in a room with cement walls & a metal roof. Right now it’s just like a sauna in here, but it gets really cold at night. I believe the family who owns this property gave up their personal beds for us to sleep on for the month. We entered a room with no beds and thought we would all set up our tents, sleeping pads, etc. on the cement floor. When we returned hours later, 4 beds magically appeared and we did not want to be rude to refuse them. What an amazing gift and sacrifice.
Our ministry contact has been working for the Lord for the last 10 years in a variety of ways following God’s guidance. He offers assistance to many in need. We had an outdoor church service complete with loudspeakers last night. We climbed a STEEP hill today where you would think only a gazelle could climb & helped level dirt for a single mom who has been gifted with land to build a home. She is fierce-she breaks rocks & cuts wood for a living. We could hardly keep up with her. We had to be careful as we were leveling the dirt not to knock the rocks too far over the edge since the road was directly below & we didn’t want to knock out anyone’s windshield. On the way down, we had our feet eaten up by ants but were gifted with fresh kumquats growing en route. Like many things in this land of ups and downs, there is pain and sweetness at every turn.
We will work repairing cars, wiring a pastor’s home with electricity (can you believe it?), going door to door to set up Bible studies, helping at the local school as needed, and a million other things. This proves to be a very interesting, diverse month. I am so grateful that God has gifted us with this contact who wants to pour knowledge & experience into us as he prays for us & our giftings. What a great start!!
Oh yes, & we have enjoyed ground corn in just about every form imaginable-fried between banana leaves, boiled in corn husks, made into soup for dinner, cooked down into a drink for breakfast. If you need to know the recipes, I’ve got them down pat. 🙂 And look up moringa. It is fascinating.
Will we be electrocuted Tuesday or will we become masters of electricity? Look for my next post in a week or you may have your answer! (I’m kidding…please don’t be anxious for anything including my health & safety-we will do everything we can to be as safe as possible.)
Here is our team leaving the hostel in Antigua to head to El Tizate.
