Ok. So, 19-years-old and 6’4 may not exactly be a baby… but my parents are getting me a new brother. Actually, the truth would be that I found myself a new brother, and asked my parents to take him in. If all goes according to plan, my Serbian/English translator will beat me home from The World Race.
For several years Alex has felt God calling him to America to attending college followed by seminary, but never knew if he would have the financial resources to make it happen. Minimum wage in Serbia is only $180/month (that is $2,160/year). He lives with a single mom, his grandmother, and two sisters.
For those who don’t know, foreigners who want to study in America are required to show that they have funds in a bank available for school, before they are allowed to enter the United States. In Serbia, it would take Alex almost 10 years (saving 100% of his earnings) to save up enough money to attend school for one year.
My parents have graciously invited Alex to live with them for his first two years of school, saving him a significant amount of money on room and board. On a student visa he will be permitted to work on campus 20 hours per week, which will cover many of his other living expenses. However, Alex will need sponsors to help cover his tuition and initial expenses (VISA fees, english test fees, travel, and medical insurance).
We are hoping to raise $1,500 within the next 30 days to cover these initial expenses and we are praying for tuition support (around $6,000 for the first year) to come in before August. His hope is to start classes at Northwestern Michigan College this fall.
Alex is a man of strong character who loves God with all his heart. He has worked many 12 hour days (on top of attending school) translating for our team. I believe that God has called him to study in America, and I know that God will make a way.
