As I sit in the chairs in Chicago with our squad getting ready to LAUNCH into the world, first to Guatemala, being a very observant person I really take to heart that everyone has struggles. We are all in different places in our lives. Different ages, genders, ethnicities, heights, weights, have different experiences, etc. We are a people of constant comparison and arounnd images/standards of who we are supposed to be. What are we supposed to look like?
Realizing we all have some sort of fear as it's crunch time for us to step onto the plane to our first country and gone for the next year we need to know who we are. Over the past few years, God has really been showing me who I am. (By the way, I am always learing more, always seeking, and still finding out more about myself everyday) Yes, I am Jessica, I am a hairdresser, I am a personal trainer, I am a friend, etc…but this is not what I mean when when I say God has been showing me who I am.
I am a huge advocate for what you believe is what you are or what you become. I can make a list of who I think I am and who people think I am but when my God, my Creator, my Father, my Best Friend tells me who I am, that is a completely different story. Sometimes it's hard to fathom really who we are. But now I realize I am SO passionate about people, as well as myself, knowing who God says we are!
*1 Peter 2:9 "You are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God's very own possession."
Just sink in these words as you read them. I am chosen by God. He chose me! Did He have to? No. But I am. I am royal. Wow, He thinks of me as royalty.
*2 Cor 12:27 "All of you together are Christs' body, and each of you is a part of it."
Christ is a big deal. To be apart of His body is HUGE! Know it and believe it. You are apart of Christ.
*Rom 8:11 "The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you."
Wow, the same God that CONQUERED THE GRAVE lives in me!
There are so many versus that I can put out there about who God says I am. Something HUGE that really has helped me and something that I want to encourage/challenge people with on my team my squad, friends, family, and you is to make a list of who God says you are. I am tired of believing lies of this world in how we have created an image of who we are supposed to be!!! It makes me sick.
I had a piece of paper that I have had for a couple years now that has been posted on my mirror and speaking these things into my life each day has made me a completely different person. In the way I walk, in my confidence in myself and the Lord, in how I want to be a light to other people, and do everything with passion and intention. Not saying I am where I want to be, by any means. We are always growing, learing, about ourselves and about who God has created us to become.
These are examples of who God says I am:
I am passionate
I am confident
I genuinely love people
The same God who conquered the grave lives in me
I have complete JOY
I am Beautiful
I am righteous
I am Royalty
With God's power I can move mountains
I am willing
I am selfless
I am a giver
I am a leader
I am an inspiration
I am a lover
I am a friend
Know who you are and you will see the world begin to radically change right in front of you! You will be blown away by how God will use you to do things you never expected to do. You are who God says you are!
