SEPTEMBER/PHILIPPINES …    COMMUNITY

My team (Ladies Of Light) faced many challenges this month. Our ministry contacts were busy with the birth of their new child so we didn't have much contact with them. A week after working in the Tondo Dumpsite we all became ill. Then our first day off and not sick we recieved the news that Wendy's mother had pasted away. We were struck with grief and decided to move to another location (leaving our ministry.) Wendy went back home. Then there was only 5 Ladies of light. However through all the challenges we cared for one another during illness and sadness, through dependence we learned about each other, and developed strong bonds. So my growth word for this month for myself and my team is COMMUNITY.

The last few days in the Philippines we made contact with an amazing woman SHARON who runs the CHILDRENS GARDEN! It is a safe house for troubled boys of the streets. This place is amazing … I think it should be called MAN HOUSE. These Young men were independent and growing in GOD! We visitied them singing songs, dancing, and sharing testimonies. They impressed us with their testimonies, musical gifts, and even did an interpretive dance that left us girls in tears.

(VIDEOS COMING SOON!)

SHARON also does outreach in the community visiting the troubled homes of street kids and doing  weekly feedings for all the children of the streets. She is some one I greatly admire and bonded with quickly. Sharon and I now call each other sisters and when she gets married I promise to come back for her wedding. However ,she is currently single and looking! 😉 I am praying for the success of this ministry. I am also encourage to help raise funds for these boys and the growth of this program!

Did some home visits with Sharon… Prayed over each family… asking GOD to heal them from sickness and help the fathers find work. Some of the homes (made with sheet metal and random trash) had been damaged the day before in the Typhoon.

Feeding the street kids. Im with a little girl names SUNSHINE she really captured my heart! These young children live on the street and can often be found sniffing glue to get high. They do this because it is a cheap way to fight their hunger pains. It was hard to witness but I was honored to spend a few evenings feeing them and then playing and dancing in the street.

Everywhere I went in this country I was greeted with smiles. It is so warm and friendly here. In such a short time, filled with so much chaos, I made genuine connections to my team and the Filippino people! I cant wait to come back one day! A true sense of love and dependence in …
