Week 2 in the Philippines was spent in Puerto Galera on the island of Mindoro.  We were sent there to help do construcion work on a church building that is being built for the area.  We lived with the Pastor and his family who were very generous and made sure we got to experience the beauty of the island.  When we weren’t scraping and cleaning up at the church we were hiking to waterfalls, swimming in the ocean, and watching the sunset over the beach.  We also got the chance to help them finish making a volleyball court and I loved getting to play with the locals!
The Pastor is involved in an organization called, “Threads of Hope”  This is an organization that helps provide job opportunities for the women on the island so that they don’t turn to prostitution.  They make friendship bracelets by the hundreds and sell them both here in the Philippines and overseas.  Surprisingly enough, the sales of the friendship bracelets are enough to keep the ministry self-sustaining.

Keep the Pastor and his family in your prayers as well as all the women involved in the bracelet making.  To find out more about the “Threads of Hope” ministry and how you can purchase the bracelets, check out the website at http://www.threadsofhope.com.ph
