Here is the information we have received about the ministry we will be doing in Thailand.  This month is different in a lot of ways.  Teams are going to be split up to do different ministries.  The men are spending a month together to do “manistry”, some girls are doing women’s ministry (working with prostitutes) and then a couple other groups are doing their own thing.  So this month I am teamed up with Emily and Natalie from my team and also Blair, Liz, and Kristen from team Bling.  We are not completely sure about our accomadations yet, hopefully internet will be readily available and I can touch base with you soon.  We leave on the night train later today!

Local Thai Church – Selapume

Working with a local church ministry up in Isaan (Northeast Thailand about 8 hours on the overnight bus from Bangkok) in a place called Selapume (in Roi Et province) working with Pastor Puthai. They do church ministry through the week but they have a great local kids ministry as well. They run aerobics programs, play soccer, tagraw, basketball on their large church grounds in the afternoons after school. Plus they also run English camps which we would set up for your teams. This would happen in the evenings after the afternoon activities and meal. (the kids are put into groups based on their age and level of English.) Very informal, conversational, using games, testimonies, songs, dramas, guitar etc. As well, they usually have teams visiting local schools in the morning to teach some English, do some presentations, share testimonies etc. church on the weekend with typical church type ministry.

The other cool thing is that they are actually situated on a Leper Colony. It is technically a leper village and it is located directly behind the property. It is one of many government laid out “parcels of land” to be used for people with leprosy. Most of the people living there are older and most of the leprosy in Thailand is totally dealt with. The village is set up so that people with leprosy can make a living selling things, doing crafts, running stores, making music etc. They all live and work together….probably over a hundred homes I would say…teams usually do in and visit the people, pray for them, talk to them etc. They are wonderful folks and love having visitors. (cuz no one visits them).

Vision – Our vision is to raise up 10 Thai translators, run English camps four times a year, build a new church, build homes for elderly people who live at the leper colony and send five people to Bible school.
