This month I’ve had the opportunity to live and work along side a couple we call Pastor and Mae. These are two of the most loving and hard working and selfless Christians I have ever met. They are up well before dawn and praying with other church members for the community every morning. Mae helps cook meals for her household plus several other kids and neighbors that happen to stop by. They are constantly doing some sort of ministry, but never seem too tired or burnt out. Perhaps because they have learned that doing ministry doesn’t always have to look a certain way. You don’t have to be going, going, going all the time. Ministry can mean sitting down with a resident of the local leper colony and just relaxing. Or it can mean taking hours to cook and eat a meal, but talking and building relationships with others while doing it. They have definitely figured out how to use every opportunity to witness about the savior they serve. Here are a few pictures of the different ways they minister to their community…
Mae is involved with the organization, “Compassion International” and helps local children in need find sponsors to help support their families. Mae makes sure these children have the opportunity to hear the gospel every week and plans activities like Bible camp, sports, and English classes for them to be involved in.
Both Pastor and Mae help farm and grow different foods like bananas, onions, peppers, herbs, etc to share with those in need around them. We got the honor to help them hoe some weeds in the banana field one day, and let me tell you, that is some hard work!
Another organization that they work with is, “Heifer International”. They help raise animals like cows, chickens, ducks, and pigs that will help supply food for families around the area in need. Mae is always saving scraps and gathering grass in the fields to feed the cows and pigs, making sure we don’t throw away anything they might eat.
Mae “sells” ice cream on the side to help earn money. I put it in quotation marks because more often than not she just ends up giving the ice cream away out of her abundant generosity!
I have been greatly blessed to have the opportunity to meet this amazing couple. I know that the community of Selaphum, Thailand will continue to be blessed by the passion that they have for following Christ’s example of loving and serving their neighbors.
