I remember very clearly watching the feed the children commercials on TV when I was younger. For 50 cents a day, you could feed someone for a week.  I remember how those images of starving children stuck in my mind. Their rib cages nearly ripping through the skin. I remember thinking at 8 years old “I could give away 50 cents a day and do that. How come everyone doesn’t do that?”

Feeding
As I got older, those commercials didn’t affect me as much. I typically would scan right through them. Those images were now familiar, and frankly the commercial seemed a bit redundant. That was until my life became those commercials.

Some days we get big plastic tubs filled with pasta, sauce, and hot dogs. About 5 of us drive to one of the neighboring communities and unload the truck. As soon as the door opens the children come running over with cups and bowls. We unload the food onto a table and have the children stand in two lines. As we pour out the food the children are desperately seeking more than just pasta. They are doing anything they possibly can to just have our attention. After the feeding we hang out with the children until it is time to leave.
I decided to add an un-edited video of us leaving the site. This is not a late night commercial. This is my experience doing a feeding.
