Hello, New York

New York City is one of the most, if not
thee most, influential city in the world. You can disagree with me if you would
like, however the truth remains the same.
I know I may be biased since I am from New
York, but after traveling the world for the last year, well you start to pick
up on some things.
A few months back, we were asked what the
cry of our hearts were. What is it that we are passionate about? For months I
spent time thinking about this. I felt so badly for orphans that had never been
held, and feeding someone that hadn’t had something to eat for days shook me.
However, the thing that broke me…the thing that kept me up at night…is
meeting people that are striving to find an identity.
Then I started thinking about people I had
met in New York City. My heart burns for the people in New York. Many people
there are striving and sacrificing their whole life for a lie. Whether its to
leave a legacy in business success, become a famous artist, or gain affirmation
from passing the impossible velvet rope. The city that never sleeps is
exhausted.
While working on construction I was
listening to Hillsong United on my Ipod. The song “Tear down the
walls” came on. One part of the song went:
“For all your sons and daughters
who are walking in the darkness
you’re calling us to lead them back to you.
We will see your Spirit rising
as the lost come out of hiding
every heart will see this hope we have in
you.”
I stopped everything I was doing and began
praying for those that God is pursuing relentlessly. I thought about the
thousands of people I had met in New York City, and around the world, and
started praying for them. While praying I began weeping and my heart started
beating out of my chest. These lyrics were the cry of my heart. This was my
passion. God is after our hearts, I want to show people that…right where they
are.
I then went to the Hillsong site, and to my
surprise…they are opening a church in New York City. I want to take this time
to encourage you to check it out. What if there could be a generation of
awakened believers, on fire for sharing the true message of LOVE and GRACE,
living in the most influential city in the world. What if?
