(This is not an exact account because remember…I did not plan this. I am trying to recount what was said with the best of my ability)
As I shakily lifted the mic to my mouth I prayed that God would come into the room. That His spirit would drop down so hard and release freedom and healing. That I would become invisible and allow God to speak through me.
I then began my sermon and it went something like this:
During “Revelation song” I always have a hard time singing “You are my everything, and I will adore you.”
Whenever I sing worship songs I really pay attention to every single word I sing. What did that mean to say “God, you are my everything.” Could I say that statement without lying?
Once in Australia, my friend Kendall and I went for a walk. She asked me a pretty simple question…If it were God and you alone in a room forever, would that be enough for you? Is God enough for you?
Any good Christian would naturally say “YES! Of course!”…Most of us would be lying.
Why wasn’t God enough for me? What was I holding onto that stopped God from being everything? What places in my heart was I not letting God in? What places in your heart are you not allowing God to have full control.
1) Desires- Truth statement- God knows the desires of our hearts. Does that mean we should allow them to run ramped? Should we let our desires control our lives? One of the biggest desires of my heart it to be married one day.
This is not sinful to desire this. However, what if God had other plans? What if I were to do a ministry where God needed me to be single to release Kingdom? What if it would harm my life or the people I was working with if I were married? Would I be willing to release that desire to God? Is God enough for me? After a lot of praying, the answer is finally Yes. However, what other desires may be challenging you and may be replacing God?
2) Forgiveness- Are there dark spots in your heart where you are holding on to pain? Have you been hurt so badly that its nearly impossible to forgive? Do you believe that person doesn’t even deserve forgiveness? Well…that place where you are holding onto that bitterness must be so important to you…because you are putting it before God. God tells us to forgive freely because we have received His forgiveness freely. We should be praying everyday for the forgiveness that we DON’T deserve and pouring that forgiveness out onto those in our life.
I encourage you to pray right now and ask God to give you the freedom from the desires that are taking over your life. I also encourage you to ask God to heal you from the pain that you have found comfort in. To clean those dark spots in your heart with His light, and to fill your soul with a Spirit of forgiveness.
