“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
I read that quote this summer in a book called Wild at Heart, and it got me thinking. What makes me come alive? I started thinking about the missions trips I’ve gone on in Ohio, the Upper Peninsula, and Trinidad. I realized that the thing that makes me come alive most is sharing God’s love and the truth of the gospel. I knew my co-worker, who is also a great friend, went on this thing called the World Race a few years ago, so I talked to her more about it to get some information. After time in prayer and solitude with God during the next couple weeks, I felt Him calling me to serve Him on the World Race gap year.
For those of you who don’t know, the World Race gap year is a nine month missions trip through the organization, Adventures in Missions. Me, and fifty other young adults will be traveling to Costa Rica, South Africa, Thailand, and Myanmar during the time of our trip. Everyday of the trip is different, but each day will be focused on furthering God’s kingdom.
I applied for the trip, and was accepted and committed to go within two months of me reading the quote that inspired me to go on the trip in the first place. It all happened pretty fast, and that’s when I started having some doubts. I thought to myself, What am I doing? Shouldn’t you be going to college to get your bachelors degree? Am I really suppose to go on this trip? There’s no way I’m going to raise the money I need. That was one of my biggest fears, the cost of the trip. It almost stopped me from going. I didn’t think I could raise the money, and I was right, by myself, I couldn’t. God helped me realized that I can’t do it by myself, but with Him it would be obtainable. In Matthew chapter 19 Jesus says,”With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” He completely calmed all my fears and gave me peace, and reassured me that the world race is where he wants me.
So in september I will be traveling the world, sharing God’s love, and doing the things that make me come alive, all for the main goal to expand God’s kingdom. I’m so grateful God presented this opportunity to me, and excited to see his plans unfold.
