I’ve been here for over two weeks now and I’d love to tell you all what the average week day looks like for me!
5:30- Wake up early to spend time in the word and in prayer.
6:30- Eat breakfast, either a bowl of cereal or an egg. Yes, my stomach is shrinking.
7:00- Have our devotional time as a squad.
7:30- Get ready for ministry. Usually take a shower, maybe do some laundry (I’ve never appreciated my mom doing my laundry more), eat some more food or spend some more time in the word and in prayer.
9:00- Our team walks to our ministry. It’s about a 30 minute walk and I love it, it’s so beautiful and fun walking together as a team every day.
9:30- The ministry our team is working with this month is called the Abraham Project, a daycare/school, (You should look it up on Google) and we normally start the day by playing with a group of kids. The games range from catch the Gringo, to pato pato ganso (duck duck goose), to some good ol’ fútbol. After the games we perform a little skit for the kids to teach them more about God. This week the skit was the Good Samaritan, I love doing the skits, it’s a great time for me to brush up on my acting skills. Then that group of kids leave and we get another group, and we do pretty much the same thing depending on their age.
11:00- We start working with Luis the landscaper, or Alfredo the painter. They take a lot of pride in how their property looks and they are great stewards of what God has given them, so it’s such a blessing being able to help them maintain their land. Whether we are scrubbing rocks, scrubbing chairs, cleaning the sanctuary, painting baby cribs, making flower beds look beautiful, or even helping build apartments for single moms to get back up on their feet, I love it. I think it’s so cool that they trust us to help build apartments, especially because we can’t understand half of their instructions.
12:00- Lunch break! By this time I’m really hungry and excited to eat our sandwich, apple, and bag of chips. Our sandwich may only have one piece of ham and one piece of cheese on it, but it’s still enjoyable (it has nothing on my mom’s sandwiches though). For a bunch of guys that lunch is more like a light snack, so we walk up to the local panaderia (bread store) and get a fat calzone for only 800 colones, which is only like $1.40! After we rest for a little bit we get back to work.
1:00- Start working again. Honestly I didnt think I would be doing that much manual labor on this trip, but it has been really cool being able to serve them in this way at this ministry. If us ten guys didnt do it, then one guy, Luis, would have to do it all, and it would take him weeks and weeks to do some of these things, and they’re so incredibly thankful for it which makes it even more rewarding.
4:00- Walk home. Usually around this time it rains, and we’ve walked all the way home in the rain a few times. I think I might invest in an umbrella.
4:30- Chill for a little bit, maybe play some hackey sack or soccer or something. Then we have team time every day which is very fruitful and I’m so thankful for it. Team time is different every day, but it’s either feedback, worship, hot seat, highs and lows of the week, working on blogging or just talking about what God has been doing.
6:30- Dinner! We have an amazing cook named Xinia that cooks for us on the weekdays and it is such a blessing, I love her. Her homemade meals remind me of my moms and they are so delicious.
7:00- This week we’ve had dinner clean up, and man it takes a while to do 55 people’s dishes and all the pots and pans. It’s fun though, because we just jam out and dance while we’re doing them.
8:30- Hangout and talk and have fun for the rest of the night. We might lead some zumba, do some star tripping, practice rapping (We have a rap battle tonight haha), play some cards (I’ve learned a lot of fun games) or just talk. There is dancing almost every night though and I love it. Probably going to audition for World of Dance next season.
10:00- Go to bed. After a long day of walking to and from ministry, working hard at our ministry, and having fun and building relationships with people on my squad, sleeping sounds really nice, and let me tell you, it is.
That is what the average day looks like this month here in Costa Rica. I have loved it so far. God has been working in my life and it’s so awesome, and I want to let Him use me more and more to share the gospel with people any way I can. I want to thank everyone reading this and all my supporters, I love you all so much, thank you for your help in bringing me here. This week can you pray that I walk more and more in the spirit, and have a soft heart so I can hear the Holy Spirit speaking to me, and then be bold to do what he says. Thank you all, if there is any way I can pray for you let me know.
God bless
