Throughout our entire lives, from the moment of birth until our last breath, words and labels are constantly being thrown into the atmosphere. Words and labels have power in our lives and when we say things we cannot ever take them back. They cannot be erased. Since we were infants, we’ve had labels thrown at us, by well-meaning people. “You’re the pretty one,” “You’re the athletic one,” “Oh, you’re the black sheep,” and so on. Once these labels are declared to our name by those around us, we begin to believe them. Although in itself there’s nothing wrong with this, the devil knows that words can either heal or hinder. So he knows that if he can get the counterfeit word over truly who you are he can corrupt the image you have of yourself. At some point many of us begin to believe this lie over the truth. We can become so consumed by what others think that we become complacent with our faith. One thing leads to another and you eventually find yourself so far from God that you do not even know where to pick up again. Satan will grab a grip to these thoughts and drag us to places we didn’t know we could go. BUT that is not God’s plan for our lives. There comes a point where you gotta say goodbye to anxiety, you gotta say goodbye to depression, and you gotta say goodbye to the devil because he doesn’t belong here, there’s no room here for them anymore. We are children of God!! There’s no way you can stray too far from Him. God does not need you to be perfect. He wants your tears, your imperfection, and your broken prayers. So many people are scared to get close to God, our Father, because they “aren’t good enough.” We are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) and you’re a child of God (John 1:12). God has a bright future for us all and he offers freedom of labels through Jesus Christ. Don’t focus on being so perfect, just let go and let God work within you.
