$17,400 raised out of $17,400!

I want to thank you all for your prayers and generous support! I am fully funded and am so grateful to God and you for helping make this mission trip possible.

I apologize for the prolonged absence…blogging/writing has never been my cup of tea and I have been putting it off for that reason. Now that I will be in the field I will be writing more frequently and I hope you enjoy them.

The second half of 2017 flew by. Signing up for the race back in June feels like a lifetime ago, and it’s hard to comprehend that launch is tomorrow. All my gear is bought and the bags are packed.

In October, I spent several days in Pearland, Texas assisting with hurricane relief work with Samaritan’s Purse. Our focus was mudding out houses in the Houston and Pearland area. The mud out process involved the removal of debris from private residences where water had flooded the home. After the removal of damaged drywall and furniture, we removed nails from the studs, vacuumed and sprayed affected areas for mold in preparation for the rebuild team that would be coming in after us.

We served 5 homeowners in my time in Texas and it was very rewarding meeting and serving them and hearing their stories. Despite their circumstances they still had a positive outlook on life and were very grateful. It was also incredible meeting and serving with different volunteers from all walks of life. Veterans, retired fire fighters from Canada, a team from Ukraine, recent college grads, men and women of all ages congregated at a church in Pearland Texas to serve the neighboring communities.

I finished my internship with LF Driscoll mid December and have been busy preparing for the trip and visiting family and friends.

Tomorrow I head to Florida to begin my World Race journey. There I will meet the Fusion team for the first time and later that night we will travel to Colombia and begin our 2 week training camp. I am excited can to land in Colombia to start this amazing journey. I know it will be hard and challenging at times, but I am so excited to give God these 11 months with no reservations. I can’t wait to see how He is going to work through my team and I.

Thank you again for your prayers and support.

In Christ,
Jesse Martinez
