I never knew that God was preparing me for this growing up. I never saw myself in Mokhotlong, Lesotho doing the work that me and twenty other young people are getting to do everyday. I never in a million years thought that I would get up in front of a church and share my testimony, but the Lord is surprising and He allowed me to do just that on Sunday.
My team was assigned to a small village church in the mountains about and hour and a half away from where we’re living. When we arrived, we were escorted by the pastor’s wife up a hill and into a tiny hut like house. In there was sitting the queen of the village. Yes we met a queen and it was so cool! After we were introduced we walked down to the church that was no bigger than my bedroom back home. Inside there were about twenty people including the world racers.
A few days before church we were told that each team had to have one person preach, two people give testimonies, and have a worship song prepared. So I volunteered to give my testimony. Speaking in front of a group of people is very uncomfortable for me. Although it was a small group of people I was still extremely nervous. I prayed that the Holy Spirit would just give me peace and speak through me, and so He did.
I summarized my testimony in my journal and read from that. There was an interpreter translating every few words that I spoke. It was a very strange feeling having the butterflies still swarm in my stomach, but at the same time feeling confident enough to make eye contact with the people sitting in the room in front of me. I knew that once I was done this would not be the only time I would get up in front of a church and tell my story of how my God redeems. How kind and generous He was for changing my situation, and how beautiful it is to have a relationship with Him.
“But Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible,” Matthew 19:26. With Christ I was able to do something I didn’t think was possible because of insecurities, but He stood by my side and was so sweet to give me peace and confidence. God is funny because right after the service He had me and my friend Meg go out into the village and evangelize, another thing I was nervous to do. Once you start to walk with the Lord and trust Him, He’s not going to keep you at the same pace. When you’re up for it He’s going to want to start to run with you.
