Don’t fall victim to The Good Samaritan effect. Don’t assume someone else is going to pick up your slack. Live like you are the only person capable of love, as if love didn’t exist outside of you. If you knew that responsibility lay in your hands, wouldn’t you certainly be more likely to smile at the downtrodden stranger, or let the frantic business women cut ahead of you in the grocery line. If you knew that the perpetuation of love fell on you then wouldn’t a hug or an extra few minutes of your time seem less like an inconvenience & more like an opportunity? Therefore, this is my challenge. Next time you are presented with a choice to demonstrate love to someone, no matter how seemingly insignificant it may be, chose to love because you may be the only one doing so. Can you imagine what the world would look like if we all loved like we were the only ones capable? That would be a heck of a lot of love, because thankfully the reality is that we are all blessed with the ability to love & in turn it’s what we are called to do.
Jesus clearly laid out the way to eternal life when he said in Luke 10:27:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart & with all your strength & with all your mind & Love your neighbor as yourself.”
