Ahh, South Africa. Yes. The name whispers beautiful sunsets in my ear; whispers safaris in the bush; whispers traversing through the streets of Cape Town or Johannesburg. When we think of South Africa, we-or at least I-think of beauty. I think of how much I’ve heard about Cape Town and how badly I want to sit on the beach at the end of the day and do.absolutely.nothing.
I want to be where beauty is. I want to be part of something beautiful. What I fail to realize is that beauty is what we make it. I have different views on beauty. I may think a woman is beautiful. I may think a country is beautiful. But I also may think that an act of servitude is beautiful. What I also often fail to realize is that South Africa is not just a country. It’s a people and these people need someone to serve them.
Currently, South Africa has the second highest number of HIV/AIDS patients in the world. Most of the pregnant women are found to be HIV infected. Lets just be open here (if you’re a child, stop reading this. If you’re offended, don’t freak, just stop reading): sex is rampant in South Africa. Multiple partners are common and the infection spreads like wildfire. The rape and molestation of women and children is the new “thing”, sad to say. If you’re looking for something to pray for, here’s a green light.
Every country needs a good leader. Someone to make good and effectual decisions that will benefit the people they are leading. South Africa doesn’t seem to have that. The President, Jacob Zuma has been in and out of the negative stream for about a decade and a half. When the country sought to end what was known as apartheid, the whites ruling the blacks and the country running by racial distinction, Mr. Zuma played a part in ending that government. However, in 2005, he became involved in an arms deal and shortly afterwards was charged with rape, but the case was thrown out because of legalities. I love the movie, Remember the Titans. One great quote that forever will be used is, “attitude reflects leadership.” How true this statement is when I think of South Africa.
A good leader would seek to lower the high unemployment rate; the violence and disruption stemming from the former white rule; the high number of HIV/AIDS patients. If there is ever a country that needs to voice of the servants, South Africa is it. We need to get on our knees and pray for this torn country as it wallows in infection. We need to hear the cries of the innocent as they are abused over and over again. The children who are born with disease. Even those who are abusing these people. Yes, pray for them as they have no one else to do it. In the KJV, it says, "the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." I believe prayer works. So I ask you now, please pray.
