Your plans are still to prosper
You have not forgotten us
You’re with us in the fire and the flood
Faithful forever
Perfect in love
You are sovereign over us
(Sovereign Over Us, Aaron Keyes)
Many things come to mind when i want to recap on my 4th of July It’s been a time of new teammates, of transition, and of unexpected events.
We have arrived to beautiful Bend Oregon and we’re joyfully greeted by Daniel our WR Alumni host. He and his roommate generously gave up their home for us to use for our 10 days in Bend. Wow that is still mind blowing amazing! Thanks Daniel and Gregg!
As Independence Day was coming up and we had a lot of things to be discuss, how new teams should be formed etc. So we all set to spend time praying about teams and we would come together on July 5th to connect what the Holy Spirit may have been showing each of us.
July 4th, a day set aside for fun and celebration! We spent the morning worship and prayer. during our time of prayer we got news of the first earthquake that shook southern California, the Ridgecrest area. We quickly interceded for our friends and family for fear to be removed and peace to come to all.
Later that afternoon we headed over to a park to play come games. After about 20 minutes of playing capture the flag and unexpected accident took place, our teammate Ben through some crazy circumstance broke his leg. I was within 5 feet of him when this took place and at first I was in stock of what I just heard, and saw that I froze. In that same moment of shock, I ran towards my brother and began praying over him. Jesus, is all I could get out of my mouth. It was on repeat in my heart and in my mind. Jesus, remove fear, Jesus remove pain, Jesus bring peace, Jesus heal these bones, Jesus Jesus Jesus you make the darkness tremble.
You know how people describe moments like this as if everything stops and seem to go in slow motion. Its crazy how real that felt in that moment. Ben in pain, the rest of us doing our very best to press in to the amount of faith, trust and love we have for not only Ben but Jesus the God that restores all to His perfect peace!
Something I learned in during this event is that we can easily go to blame and question God’s sovereign love. I realize that it takes greater faith, trust and love to praise God in the storm.
Finding faith in God during the unexpected is not an easy task. The lies and distraction that Satan throws trying to get our eyes off the God that is in control of all and trying to get us all not to trust in our sovereign God. This event has caused me to lean in more to my supreme God, and to see how much He really is in control.
*Due to the severity of Ben’s break, and the amount of recovery and therapy he will have to endure. He will be no longer be traveling with us. We are praising God for the time that we have had to be with our brother Ben and praising God already touching Ben with His healing hand. Please keep Ben in your prayers as he will have to keep pressing into God’s love during this time of unexpected. Pray for WR America as we adjust without our teammate!
Stay tuned for more of what God is teaching me on the #WRAmerica journey
