As I sit in this coffee shop, I look around at all the different people that I am surrounded by. You know what I am seeing is people, sitting at tables, talking, smiling, drinking coffee, working on computers. Each in their own little space, with a table at the center of them all.
What is the purpose of a table? By definition it is: a piece of furniture consisting of a smooth flat slab fixed on legs. I not sure if you’re like me, but I love a large table with space for not only wonderful food to be consumed but a table where wonderful people can be enjoyed. A lot of things can take place at a table. Decisions are made, friends bond over coffee, and first dates are often set up around a table of some kind. I think of Jesus being a carpenter, what kind of table would be in his family home growing up. I imagine that it has space for all to sit.
I am learning that as I travel around America we are asking, inviting people to join us at a table to chat, to eat and mostly just to know they always have a seat at our Fathers table in heaven.
Challenge for YOU:
Invite people to come sit at your table, set no agenda, ask your guest to leave their cell phones in a basket at the front door; you can give them a one check pass ( meaning they can check their cell phone just one time during the evening with you). Invite new, and old friends, people of different ages. Mix it up and see how God shows you the beauty of the people around you. Share your life stories, share about God moments, and share about sad moments.
I am excited to sit at the table with as many WR alumni that God would have us meet in this 11 month journey around America. I am praying for 100 people I could sit at a table with. I have 20 so far. Will you pray for me to make that goal of the 80 more to go?
