Picture this…

Think of the city in your area that pretty much everyone knows of a place that is dangerous at times, the area of own you just know not to go to after a certain hour because it’s just not safe. A place were darkness lurks on the walls as well as on the faces of people walking by. You know that place right, you can picture it, you know how to get there but you know it’s probably better that you stay away.

But what if Jesus ask you to Go?

My Father in heaven has given me an assignment, to bring light to the an area of Chile called La Pintana. I have been here for just a little over a month, staying at th House of Hope. A home for young women, who do not have a safe environment to live in after a certain age , foster care system pretty much kicks them out. Young women that have grown up in La Pintana, and know the struggle for life. Many come with backgrounds, that would make most of you cringe just thinking about.

It’s been God’s will for me to be welcomed into this community and to bring hope to those I meet, to see God’s heart for His people. To be included into family even when I am not “really” family.

Community is everything you make it out to be. When you grow up in a community that is only known for bad things how do you find hope for your future, how do you see your cup as half full. I believe the greatest example is Jesus himself. Jesus was born and raised in area that was really known for good.

“Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip.
John 1:46 NIV

He is the Hope of us all. That is what the House of Hope is doing. Giving these young women a chance to breathe the freshness of Jesus, knowing he raised from the grave for each of them, that He has so much love for each of them.

I have learned that when God ask you to go, even if it’s the most dangerous part of town, and everyone says, it’s not safe or that you might be crazy. I will be obedient to my Father’s call. He is my protector and my strength.

My time here has been the most joyous blessing. The people are nice, and truly want to raise above the status quo.

My prayer is that the young women in the House of Hope will be transformed from the inside out, and with that transformation they will be the change in their community.

My time here is coming to an end, and my heart is full if so many emotions. It’s difficult to leave a place where you feel apart of a family and a community.

The race is also slowly coming to an end, and I can’t even thinK about the emotion I will have with leaving my World Race family.
