Our team is in Bunumwaya,  Uganda this month partnered with a church doing door to door evangelism. Where exactly is Bunumwaya, you ask? It’s right outside the metro area of Kampala. Essentially we’re living in the suburbs of Kampala, except that they are completely unlike any suburbs in the States. it’s more like a small village. Our team is living with a Pastor and his family in their home and I absolutely love it!

Pastor and his wife Peace have several children and people who live in the house, to be honest I’m not exactly sure how many people live in this house. We don’t have running water or constant power (longest power outage has been 48hrs.), but we do have a dining room table and a living room. Ok, I know that it doesn’t make sense that a dining room table is somehow comparable to indoor plumbing and it isn’t – it’s better!

I’ve learned over that past 6 ½ months that not having indoor plumbing can be a pain at times, but eventually it’s not a big deal. It’s something I can adjust to, same as not having constant power, you can adjust and life can go on as normal. However dining room/ kitchen tables and living rooms? They are such an integral part of life and community.
My favorite part of a home has always been the kitchen, it always seems that some of the best conversations happen at the kitchen table. That’s what this month has been like for our team, lingering at the table after our meals, everyone hanging out in the living room, taking naps, reading or playing games.

If I’m completely honest I was afraid of coming into Africa, I was afraid of how hard it was going to be. I had gotten comfortable after Nepal and I didn’t want to be uncomfortable again. My fears were ridiculous, yea I know that it doesn’t necessarily sound like our living situation is physically all that comfortable, but it’s absolutely wonderful. I was told time and time again that Africa would be hard but that the people would more than make up for it and it has been so true. I love our home here this month, I love the family we live with dearly and I’m in love with the people we do ministry with.

I’m already in Love with Uganda and I’m excited for our remaining time here!

I haven’t actually taken any pictures this month, but my teammate Cassie has posted a photo blog of our home this month here.
