Well, I’m here in Guatemala and I freaking love it here!

For the majority of the month we have been teaching English at a nearby school and also leading children’s church on Sundays and Wednesdays. It has been great getting to know the older kids at school as well as the teachers that I’ve been working with!

Last week myself and two other girls on my team got the opportunity to help build a house with an organization called Casas Por Cristo. I won’t lie to you, it was hard! However, I can honestly tell you that it was one of the highlights of my entire race!

We built for 3 days until the house was done. The first day we built the foundation, mixed the cement and then poured it. The second day we started with the walls and the siding, along with building the roof. Then, the last day we finished the windows, roof, electric, and door. Did I mention that nailing nails can be hard!!! 🙂 The whole time we were there, there were people from the neighborhood that came to help us. It was so neat to see everyone want to come and pitch in to build the house for the family in their community.

The family we built for was an elderly lady (81 years old) and her son, who was mentally handicapped. It was so amazing to see how much joy they had because of the Lord. They knew that it wasn’t just about a bunch of North Americans coming to build them a house, but that it was truly that the Lord had provided for them and we were just a small part of that.

When we did the dedication, the mother was in tears and was so appreciative of everything that we had done for her.

Casas Por Cristo is a wonderful organization, whom I hope to partner with again at some point. They do a great job of bringing the gospel to people in a real and tangible way. It was more than a blessing to be able to be a part of it this month!

Just a reminder too! I am still in need of $2,050 to stay on the Race! Would you consider donating to my cause so that I can stay on the Race and continue to do awesome things that I just shared!? You can donate right on my blog under “Support Me.” jessicahines.theworldrace.org   Oh yea, and it’s tax deductible!! : ) Thank you to everyone who has donated! I couldn’t be doing any of this without your support!
