I entered training camp for the World Race nervous, excited and cautious. I was nervous that my Squad mates wouldn’t like me. I was nervous that leadership would see right through me and for one reason or another day that I wasn’t fit for the race. I was excited for the new adventure. I was excited to meet potential new friends. I was excited to learn more about my upcoming year. And so, I was cautious.

Training Camp, as it turned out, was wonderful! I was able to test out all my gear: tent, pack, towel, sleeping bag; I spent time with my amazing squad mates; I was fed many different types of foods; worshipped my Savior and discovered a starting point for this chapter of the spiritual journey I’ve set foot on.

I like to call it: God’s Fixer Upper.

During training week, God pointed out many solid pieces of my “spiritual house”: a few solid foundation blocks, a few that need to be picked up, dusted off and mortared back in place; a set of rafters in perfect condition; a few walls that simply need a paint job; an entire kitchen that needs demo-ing; and maybe replace a few shingles. But God also pointed out that once He reveals areas that need brushing off, fixing or altogether replacing, together, He and I, can begin to rebuild- building a beautiful, fearfully made: Fixer Upper.

“When doubts filled my mind, Your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.” Psalms 94:19

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2
