On June 15th, 2015 I walked out my back door with no food and no money. Between me and my goal was 4,000 miles of mountains, deserts, rivers, and forests.
I was born in the Pacific northwest in November of ’93. My family later moved to Pennsylvania where I went to middle and high school. Despite leaving Seattle at a young age I never lost my love or connection to the west.
I spent nineteen months walking across the United States (Pennsylvania to California). The Spirit of God directed me to take no food or money with me. I walked over six hundred days and more than 4,000 miles depending on God to provide me with food, shelter and ministry opportunities. I preached at churches, ministered to strangers on the street, served food in homeless shelters and other forms of service that God presented to me. I never asked for money or stood in front of a restaurant looking pitiful. I just moved forward trusting that what I needed would be provided. I was given at least one meal every day while I traveled the country. In between towns I would sleep in a hammock or a bivy sack. God was teaching me what life can look like when one is entirely dependent on him for everything. I now teach and advocate that the promises of the Bible are literal and immediate. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” On my trek across America I found God faithful to his promise. He fed, clothed, and shelterd me for 600 days.
My father and mother have shown me the value of a life spent in service to God. Pastor Jerry, my dad, has been a gentle and wise man leading churches for over thirty years. Julie, my momma, was a teacher for a decade. She then transitioned into managing New Hope Ministries. In 2016 she created her own Christian non-profit, Disabled By Love. I am the third of four children. Josiah, the eldest, is an associate pastor. Jael, my only sister, is a missionary in Latin American. Jesse, the youngest, works with my mother as the motivational speaker for their non-profit, Disabled By Love.
