The disappearing of time on long flights eastward and the jet-lag that accompanies it has been something with major effects.  It has taken days to recover from the jet-lag and to adjust to the time in a time zone that is now 8 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time.  That means a lot of sleeping to get back on track.  In a way, we are in the future now compared to people living in the US.  It is only for half a day away but when we communicate, depending on the time, we are now communicating from the future.

I knew for a while that this will be a month where nothing is set in stone and there will be much sporadic events to take part in.  Being able to be interrupted when God sends an opportunity our way is something for us to live in. There is no time to set aside for trivial things during this month.  Everything that might hinder you and any baggage you may want to cling to has no place during this month. If you are serving in an Unsung Heroes month on the race, you cannot nurse hurts or feel that the world owes you something because of it.  That definitely has no place in anyone’s life and it especially has no place here. That gets in the way of beautiful dependence on God and a trust in his Son.  This dependence is where all wholeness comes from.  It really goes against what the world teaches about being a person who is independent and made their own way with their own strength to get to the top.  Remember, we are dead people who God makes alive.  Going into this month, I hope that whatever godly habits I develop this month will revolutionize my remaining time on the race.

My team is also getting very familiar with hostel life.  A lot of times while in between mission’s hosts, the squad might be in a hostel.  We were in one in Antigua and then in El Salvador before flying out.  When my team got to Uganda we stayed in another one until we got our first ministry assignment.  Hostels can be a great place to meet and share life with other people that you may not see again.  You learn many interesting things about very unique people (mostly backpackers) that are on a journey just like us and God brings us together and greatly blesses the time that we can talk to people.
