This is my first blog in the field and the frequency of how many I can post will be sporadic. It has been nearly a week since I left the United States and I know it was harder for my family than it was for me during our time in Atlanta leading up to launch. I think it has been a smooth transition from attending the last training sessions in Atlanta to flying out to Honduras and within 10 hours we were at our ministry site. When meeting our ministry host for the first time and from the first conversation, we are already being discipled. It was such a short, concise but most powerful 10 minute conversation that I’ve heard in my life about living out the gospel with God rather than for him. We have mostly unplugged from media and entertainment and it’s because of the example being set by our host and I have to admit, being unplugged along with the constant community of my team has allowed me to put aside any self-pity or loathing or persistent doubting that has been in my life. It has allowed God to come into more areas of my life or come back into some areas that I’ve reclaimed for myself. Right now we have not yet dealt with people yet while on mission. It has been a few projects and getting used to our surroundings. We’ve done some painting, woodwork, polishing and quite a few chores which is good for building humility for what lies ahead when we go into relational ministry. It fits with the gospel accounts of Jesus’ life, after all, he waited until he was 30 to begin his ministry. I’m seeing small fragments of purpose in whatever we do even though it doesn’t seem like much. It looks like I found my church community for the next month down here as well. I would like to thank everyone again who has supported me over this year. I’m now completely funded 100% and have reached my goal. Praise Almighty God!
