Hello followers, we have arrived safely in Nicaragua. We will be here in Nicaragua for about 3 months. We are located in a city called Jinotepe.
So far we have been to a welcome church service, hung out with some of the local people, and this morning we visited some of the local neighborhoods. The atmosphere and culture here are extremely similar to the Dominican Republic. Walking through the city that we are close to reminds me of walking through the streets of San Juan when we were there just over a year ago.
Our time looks like it will consist of a lot of different things. Playing sports with the local kids, going to the church of the pastor we are working with, doing house visits in the neighborhoods, visiting hospitals, visiting nursing homes, etc. Our time here will be busy with many different things.
If you can pray for us to just get settled well that would be great. Everyone on the team is doing well. For some of them it is their first time out of the country so they are experiencing some culture shock among other things. Also, if you can pray for some of us to pick up on more Spanish, that would be much appreciated. About 5 or so of us have some basic knowledge, but not enough to really be effective. We have access to translators, but sometimes it is better to just know the language yourself. We are currently arranging classes for some of us to learn more (the prospective teacher actually just walked by me).
Well, I guess that’s about it for now. Once we start getting busier and more “God things” happen, I will definitely keep you updated. For now, we are extremely grateful that we are here safely and we are already forming beneficial relationships.
