Well everyone, we have made it safely to Zomba, Malawi!! We made it after over a week of traveling and adventures. Although this past week has been one of the most difficult weeks of my life, it has also been one of the most fun, awesome, and rewarding weeks of my life as well. This week was difficult for everyone on our squad, but we saw such incredible growth through the experiences that we went through. The Lord definitely had His hand in everything that we experienced over the past week (or so). That is as much in detail as I will go for our travel week for now, because, honestly, I don’t have words to describe anything else and about 60 other people from our squad will be posting blogs of more detail about our travel adventures.
Now to talk a little bit about what we are going to be doing in Malawi this month… We are going to be working with Harvesters International Ministries (HIM). The people that we have already met that will be our contacts are absolutely incredible. They are upfront and honest, and they value the input that we have to give them about what we think went well or not so well in our ministry with them. I love upfront honesty, because this month will give us the opportunity to grow ourselves and be able to improve an already phenomenal ministry. It looks like we will be working in rural villages around the city that we were in. The main focus of our ministry will be church plants. We will be going to new unreached places for our contacts around here and working to extend there reach in the country. Our contact is also planning to take us to other parts of the country. Places south of where we are at (closer to Mozambique) and places closer to Lake Malawi. Hopefully we get to extend his ministry all over this great country.
The place we are staying this month absolutely blew away my expectations for what Africa was going to be like (that’s what you get for having expectations). We do have a house for all of us to sleep in and beds with mosquito nets to sleep on. We do have a normal shower, as opposed to a bucket shower. The place we are staying at is beautiful and God has definitely blessed us with a safe and comfortable place to stay at for our time in Malawi.
Well folks, that is about it for now. I am working on writing a few more blogs about our time in the Czech Republic and in Romania. I realize that I have done a not-so-good job on keeping you guys updated on what has been going on. Now that we have extremely limited internet, it will make me be intentional about sitting down and writing blogs, because they will be one of the only outlets as to letting people know what is going on.
