Well due to the limited access to the internet, I decided to recap the happenings of the first week in Haiti into a single blog. It may be a lot of info to digest (or not).
-In my last blog you read that I got to preach at the service last Sunday, that was pretty freaking amazing, and a humbling and learning experience all at the same time.
-During the first week we built tarp houses for the people around here. These houses will serve as temporary housing for the earthquake victims until they can rebuild what they lost in the earthquake. There are a massive amount of tent communities around the area. The other day we were told that there were no tents in this area before the earthquake. It is impossible to fathom what the region would look like without all of the tents around, because more people live in tents than houses around here. (FYI- The area we are serving in is about an hour or so away from the epicenter of the earthquake, so pretty much everybody around here was affected.)
-The ministry we are working with here is called Mission of Hope. We are building with materials that were donated by the Samaritan’s Purse.
-The first week or so actually doing work was a little rough on me. I think the medicine I was taking was screwing with my body, so I was always tired and wanting to take a nap. Now that I’m only on one anti-biotic I’m on the upswing. Don’t get me wrong, if a nap is to be had, I will be taking it.
-We are making a lot of connections with the kids in the orphanage/school that the Mission of Hope is also involved in. I already know it is going to be hard leaving some of these kids behind. You can tell that they latch on to any opportunity to receive love that they can get. It has been so fun and humbling to be able to change these kids lives by simply playing with them and praying over them in a language that they don’t understand.
-Hope you guys are all doing well that are reading this. Keep the comments coming, they are encouraging and usually one of the only ways to stay in touch with you guys.
-A little aside.. I will not be able to post videos or photos this month due to the limited internet access where we are at, but hopefully next month will be a different story (no guarantees though)
-Peace out everybody!!
