Well, I’m back on the North American Continent… albeit quite a few thousand miles from home still. Asia went by so fast – I don’t know what happened but I know it was sweet while it lasted. After a ridiculous 5 days of travel (which included two trains, a ferry, riding in the back of a truck, four airplanes, and a van) we arrived in Nicaragua. The place is beautiful, but kind of feels a bit like home but more tropical – I can’t quite explain it. Maybe it’s the contrast of how different Asia was. Even speaking Spanish feels more like home!

So my team is living at a home outside the town of Diriamba for Nicaraguan youth who led some pretty tough lives before being taken in by our contacts. They are wonderful and we go with them out into the surrounding Barrios (neighborhoods) to do outreach to other youth and children. The best part (and the hardest part) is that nobody (except one of the kids) speaks English and so we are in complete Spanish immersion 90% of the time. We’re communicating and learning more everyday but sometimes it seems slow.

If you would like to see some photos of where we’re living and what we’re doing check out my teammate Sarah Hogan’s last blog. She’ll also be doing a blog about some of the children’s stories soon. http://sarahhogan.theworldrace.org/

So, this is the last continent, and we’re thinking more about what home will look like and what on earth we might do with our lives at that point… I really have no idea but trying to pray into it and listening hard for some hints on what is next. For now it’s Nicaragua, soon we’ll be in El Salvador and the on to the last destination – Guatemala. It’s been a long journey but it also seems so quick. I don’t know how to explain that either.

Thanks to everyone who keeps up with my sporadic blogging, and thanks for your comments – it’s nice to know that people are continuing to follow this crazy journey.
