Ministry is hard.

This month, a lot of us are hitting a wall. Communicating about ministry is difficult. The culture here is so different than anything we have encountered so far, and we all are feeling so confused about a lot of personal things, too.

The other day, I was talking to my mom about some of the stress I was feeling, and she gave me a beautiful piece of advice. She said “Remember to laugh. It will help”. When she said it, I didn’t think much about it in the moment. I was thinking how silly it would be if anytime I felt overwhelmed to just stare at a wall  and laugh. That seemed silly.

However, in the midst of that, our team really started living that out.

First off, if I haven’t said this yet, I love my team. I loved my last team, Valor, too, but I needed them for a certain season in my life, and now I need what team Fly has.

Joy.

I love that this week, after ministry, we can just sit in our pastor’s house in a circle and laugh at enneagram memes on instagram, or solve minute mysteries when the power goes out, or play card games, or just that we are willing to sit in each other’s presence and genuinely want to be there. No matter how frustrating a situation may be, every day I have been able to laugh with my team, and I am so grateful for that.

I love when Katy will randomly make a sarcastic comment, or how she will say “Praise God!” When even the simplest blessing come along. I also love how she will always be a listening ear and offer prayer for anyone who needs it whenever they need it.

I love how Tyler will laugh as he pretends to scare me with the littlest things, and how he always loves to help cook in the kitchen and belt along to his gospel worship playlist.

I love how Anna will make puns about the silliest things, like saying “I repuke that” to her car sickness, or how excited she gets when she gets to go on a new adventure, even when it’s just walking around town.

I love how Lee always has a sassy comment to say, and it can always make us smile in any situation. I also love how much he will love literally any small child that will come running in his direction, and the joy that brings to all of us watching him love those kids.

I love how Andrew will always have a song about anything, and how he can always find an encouraging scripture to fill us up with the word of God when we need it most. I also love how much he loves to play card games, and how much he loves spending time with our team doing literally anything.

Ministry has not always been easy, but it has always been good with team fly. I am so grateful for everything each and every one of them bring to this team. It just goes to show how God puts people in your life for precisely the time you need them, and I believe God putting this team together for this part of the race was so intentional, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
