People see the adventures. The 2 to 4 days out of the month that we adventure. We get to see and experience some remarkable places. We are extremely blessed. But, the Race is not about adventure. It’s not even close. It’s in the day-to-day. More real life than you would think. More normal and mundane. It’s about team time and prayer and playing with little kids and manual labor and teaching English and building relationships. It’s about the people, not the places. We get 2-4 adventure days per month, but many times it’s not just up to me to decide the plans.
This is something I’ve had to surrender to the Lord. That this year is not about travel or about adventures. It’s not about doing what I want to do. It’s not about seeing the world (even though it is a big perk). Rather, it’s about Jesus. It’s about serving Jesus and growing in intimacy with Him. It’s about surrendering my will, for His. And if that means leaving a country (flash back to Argentina) without hiking in Patagonia, then that’s for His glory. I desire His desires. And this season, it’s not chasing the adventures. It’s about using this time to glorify the Lord and using my giftings to help grow the kingdom.
This month, that looks like being on the media team for Hope Church. Located in Dragonesti-Olt, Romania, I’m spending my days filming and editing stories with one of my very talented squadmates, Miranda. Although it has involved some long days in our “studio”, we recognize that what we are doing is Kingdom-building. We are getting to help Hope Church reach more people and showcase what the Lord is doing here in Romania.
If you didn’t read my last blog, the Lord has been teaching me a lot about laying down perfectionism and focusing on abiding in Him. Miranda and I have already shot and edited about 20 short videos over this last week. So, for someone who is very detail-oriented, the Lord is continuing to teach me to let go of control over perfectionism so that we can turn these projects around quickly. Because these videos for His glory and not mine. Just like this whole adventure we’re on.
