Toch Village, Cambodia
Where the village is bustling by 6:30am
Where sunrises and sunsets color the entire sky in its brilliance
Where locals wear matching pj sets as an all-day outfit & where our team joins in on the fun
Where motorbikes and TukTuks rule the road
Where coffee is $.25 and served in a bag and sold across the street
Where “Girl on Fire” by Alecia Keys is played or requested daily by the girls in the village
Where they sell toe socks specifically to wear with flip flops
Where the high schoolers throw a surprise-early-birthday-party/goodbye-party all in one
Where turtlenecks are worn in 95% humidity
Where bare feet are the norm
Where green mangos are a typical snack & chomped on with spicy dip
Where dogs get fed the leftover rice
Where an old widow is blind and Jesus healed her soul
Where two twins live with their older brother while their parents find work in Thailand
Where a grandma is possessed by evil spirits
Where a devastating genocide took 1/4 of their population only 40 years ago
Where Buddhism tricks people into believing in emptiness
Where ladies are working at a coconut facility so that their kids can attend school
Where teenagers are understanding that they are dearly loved and chosen
Where children are learning English and valuable skills to go to universities
Where athletes are finding worth and identity in something greater than themselves
Where families are attending church and experience full, abundant life
Where God is healing so much brokenness and restoring HOPE to His village and country.
It’s for sure a “see-ya-later” to Cambodia, but for now it’s an excited “hello” to Thailand.
