It was one of the hottest nights here in Argentina and we were told we were going to a church, not told many details! That is becoming my new normal…lol. We are waiting to be picked up from our base and this white van pulls up and we hop in. As soon as we hop in I know it is going to be interesting, there is two kitchen chairs, an old tire, and one small bench to sit on. It was about a 30-minute drive to the church. We hopped out of the van and we look around and the church was in the pastor’s garage. Yep a Garage. I instantly was excited because we walked in and there was about 30 people maybe more than that and it was a Pentecostal church.
We had a relative plan of what we wanted to do but as usual we were flexible if they wanted more or less from us (most of the time it is more). So my team mate Vivi goes and asks the pastor what He would like us to do and what His expectations are. So she comes back and tells us we are pretty much going to run the service they are going to do some worship songs but then the rest of the service is all ours! I was so excited. So I got up and introduced my team and what we were doing and why we wanted to be there. Next my team mate Becca came up and shared her testimony, then Miranda came up and preached a sermon; her sermon was on Realignment towards the Father and His word. After we shared our hearts with the church we got up and sang King of My Heart in Spanish and one of the worship leaders looked at us and so we sang two more after that.
So my team decided while in Chile that all the songs we were going to sing were going to be in Spanish, so as of right now we have learned about 5 of them. The Holy Spirit was so alive and present that night; I felt His presence like I never have before. But we don’t know all of the words completely so we have the lyrics written down so we can reference them. But that night during leading worship I knew all the words and could just worship My Dad freely IN SPANISH!! (I don’t know Spanish fluently) We get done with singing and go sit down, and the Pastor asks us to turn towards the congregation and they were going to pray for us.
As I stood there my hands wide open in front of me and the congregation outstretching their hands towards us I felt someone lay their hand on my shoulder. I looked up for a second and saw an older man standing in front of me and praying for me. As I start to listen trying to understand what he is saying, it was like my brain switched and I was fluent in Spanish. I understood everything he was praying over me! I was so overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit granting me the ability to understand him in a language I am not fluent in. “ I know she is tired but Father I pray you would renew her in you and give her your strength” I was bawling at this point because little did that man know that I needed to hear that more than ever in that moment. “Father I pray blessings over her and her team, I thank you for them coming and sharing their hearts with us.” As much of a refreshment it was for us to be overwhelmed by the Father’s love for us, He was renewing the church body as well.
Jesus is with me wherever I go this year and I believe that even more now that I experienced Him more powerful than I ever have in a garage.
Jesus wants us to open our minds, eyes, hearts, and ears to see and experience Him everywhere we go.
Challenge Yourself to experience Him in the places you would never think to experience Him….EVEN IN A GARAGE!
